Pooja is performed in front of the idols on the pooja days. In the Hindu families, however pooja is performed regularly at home by the family members. Poojs is a sacred ritual and is done with proper devotion and dedication. Usually the pooja is performed after having bath and of course in washed clothes. In the temples the priests or the pundits worship the idols. On special occasions during the special pooja days pooja is performed in front of the idol of the Gods and Goddesses and this involves a rather elaborate ritual. The pooja items play a significant role in different steps of pooja.
The special poojas in India like, the Durga Puja, Lakshmi Puja, Saraswati Puja, Kali Puja, Shiva Ratri Broto, Narayana Puja, Ganesh Puja, Monosha Puja Homam, Satyanarayana Puja are celebrated with elaborate ritual.
