Ganesha Puja or Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated in Maharastra. Ganesh puja is celebrated in month of August and September. The festival is celebrated with great fun ad fervor. It is generally celebrated in the month of August and September. People offer prayers to Ganesha. Hymns are chanted and invocations are made. The idol of Lord Ganesh is worshipped. Some of his choiced dishes specially the laddoos are placed before the deities. It is actually a week long festival in Maharastra. On the last day the idol of Ganesh is immersed in river. HHuge processions are held with variety of performances.
Durga Puja is the greatest festival of the Bengalis. This five-day festival is celebrated with great fun and fervor, zeal and gusto. It is said that mother Durga comes down to the earth with her family on these five days. The puja celebrations have undergone a change with due course of time. The community pujas in Kolkata, West Bengal are marvelous pieces of art with their exotic pandal architectures and exquisite idols. Durag Puja is celebrated in the month of October.
After Durga Puja comes Kali Puja. Kali is the goddess of power and vitality. Along with the Kali Puja Diwali or the festival of lights are celebrated all over India. People exchange greetings and gifts and sweets on this day. The households, public buildings and temples are beautifully illuminated with candlesticks, wicker lamps or multi colored light bulbs. Whatever it may be the Dewali night really looks gorgeous with the dazzling lights and fireworks.
Lakshi Puja is generally held in the night of Dewali. Earthen objects and silver coins are offered to the goddess. Lakshmi Puja is organized in the households for their health, wealth and prosperity. The light is always switched on so that goddess Lakshmi does not face any difficulty in finding her way.
Lord Narayan who is an incarnation of Vishnu is worshipped in Satyanarayan Puja. Lord Narayan is an embodiment of purity and truth. The Hindus especially the Bengalis practice this auspicious puja. Satyanarayan Puja is organized after a marriage ceremony, shift house or any good incidents in the family. Satyanaryan puja is observed maintaining a wide array of customs and rituals. The puja is commenced on a Sankranti and full moon day. Shri Satyanarayan Katha is chanted during the time of puja.
